LSSA Welcomes Kerwin Johnson back to Professional Staff

We are delighted to announce the return of Kerwin Johnson to the Lonestar SC San Antonio professional staff for 2018 and beyond. Kerwin comes back after his time as a college coach at his alma mater University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). Kerwin was instrumental in the rise to prominence of Lonestar SC San Antonio program after he switched Lonestar programs and came back to work in his home town in San Antonio. For 2018 Kerwin will have various assignments within the program bringing his energy and passion for coaching to several boys and girls groups.

Kerwin will give the staff and players a boost for the spring season and we will be utilizing his collegiate expertise to improve our already successful College Identification Program as he will serve as the Girls College Coordinator moving forward” – commented Nick Hallam – Director of Coaching


Kerwin joined the UIW women’s soccer program from Lonestar SC San Antonio in July of 2014 after the UIW head coach recruited Kerwin to her coaching staff. As part of a first-year staff at UIW in 2014 that went through some growing pains, but came through it looking like a future contender in the Southland Conference.


Kerwin showed his value in the recruiting process for the Cardinals with his local club ties. Six of the freshmen in the 2015 signing class had direct ties to local San Antonio club teams.


Following graduation from UIW in 1997, Johnson played professional soccer in the MLS for the Tampa Bay Mutiny, the Dallas Burn, and in Germany with Eintracht Braunschweig.


Kerwin currently holds the USSF National “C” Coaching license and the U16/U18 Regional License. Currently he is pursuing the USSF National “B” coaching license. He was an assistant coach for the UIW Men’s Soccer team in 1997 and was the Assistant Coach for the U-23 Men’s State Select Team from 2002-06. Prior to joining Lonestar SC, Johnson coached for the Hammer’s soccer club from 2000-04, the Austin United Capitals SC from 2004-08, and was part of the South Texas Olympic Development Program Staff from 2003-2006.


Kerwin received a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from UIW. He is recognized as UIW’s all-time leading goal scorer, a two-time All-American, a two-time Heart of Texas Conference MVP, and a three-time all-conference selection. He also participated in the Umbro All-Star College Game and was inducted into the UIW Hall of Fame.  He scored at least 16 goals in each of his four seasons at UIW and he had the two most prolific scoring seasons in school history when he had 33 goals and 19 assists in 1995 and 33 goals and 10 assists in 1996.


Kerwin and his wife, Christine, reside in San Antonio with their two children, Jonah and Londyn.
